Nordic Semiconductor nRF54H20 4th Generation Multiprotocol SoC - Coming Soon

Nordic Semiconductor nRF54H20 4th Generation Multiprotocol SoC is the first in the nRF54H Series. The nRF54H20 is a compact, ultra-low-power SoC featuring superior processing power, abundant memory, and excellent efficiency. The device offers multiprotocol radio and state-of-the-art security options. The nRF54H20's integrated design with a unique combination of features enables developers to build innovative IoT products. The Nordic nRF54H20 contains multiple Arm® Cortex®-M33 processors and RISC-V coprocessors, clocked up to 320MHz. Each processor is optimized for a specific type of workload. The processing power of the application processor is doubled compared to the nRF5340. The nRF54H20 offers integrated memory with 2MB of non-volatile and 1MB of RAM, consuming less power than external memory. The processing power and amount of memory make the device ideal for running machine learning (ML) models and sensor fusion at the edge.

Nordic Semiconductor nRF54H20 4th Generation Multiprotocol SoC features several notable digital and analog interfaces, including a high-speed USB (480Mbps), two I3C interfaces, a CAN FD controller, and a 14-bit ADC. It also employs other analog and digital interfaces.

The multiprotocol radio breaks the triple-digit barrier on RX sensitivity for 1Mbps BLUETOOTH® Low Energy, with -100dBm. It also furnishes -104dBm for 802.15.4 protocols. Combined with up to 10dBm TX power, it delivers improved robustness and a more extended range. The nRF54H20 supports all Bluetooth 5.4 features and reinforces future Bluetooth specifications. The SoC supports Bluetooth Low Energy, LE Audio, Bluetooth mesh, Thread, Matter, and more. The radio RX current is as low as 2.0mA (3V, DC/DC), resulting in energy savings, particularly for applications that are mainly receivers, such as earbuds and wearables.

The nRF54H20 features state-of-the-art security for PSA Certified Level 3 and facilitates security services such as Secure Boot, Secure Firmware Update, and Secure Storage. The cryptographic accelerators are hardened against side-channel attacks, while tamper sensors can detect an attack in progress and take suitable action.

The nRF54H20 is a compact all-in-one solution that can replace multiple components on the PCB, decreasing design size. Its energy efficiency enables the use of smaller batteries, reducing the design size and cost.
